Incredible Foresight Regarding Lost's Season 4 Finale
I'm watching the Season 4 Finale of Lost right now with my wife. So far, the episode is 24 minutes in, and they've mentioned the name Jeremy Bentham twice. I immediately Googled the name (as neither of us could remember a Jeremy Bentham character), and came up with the following post from Lost Review.com dated May 25, 2007:
According to the letters that we can read, some people seem to think that the name listed might be Jeremy Bentham. Jeremy Bentham is the name of a philosopher, similar to John Locke, Rousseau, Hume, Mikhail Bakunin, etc. Someone on the island could have the alias of Jeremy Bentham, or something similar…but I doubt it. I think that we have not met this person yet.
Furthermore, I also think that this person is “Jacob.”
Jeremy Bentham, while alive, was a member of the Jacobin Club. Bentham also proposed the idea for the Panopticon, a type of prison.
“The concept of the design is to allow an observer to observe (-opticon) all (pan-) prisoners without the prisoners being able to tell if they are being observed or not, thus conveying a “sentiment of an invisible omniscience.” In his own words, Bentham described the Panopticon as “a new mode of obtaining power of mind over mind, in a quantity hitherto without example.”

Now having discovered the identity of Jeremy, how would one apply that to your theory/research? Is Locke just on a power trip, trying to control his fellow survivors?
