I had read about the Kraftwerk tribute album titled '8-Bit Operators' in Wired magazine a few months back. I was mildly curious at the time, and listened to a few samples of the tracks online. Today, I was shopping at my local, independent record store chain (Independent record store chain? How's that for an oxymoron?) and came across a 12" in support of the CD having 'Pocket Calculator' as the A side & 'The Robots' as the B side. Now, as a rule, I try not to spend more than $4.00 on a two song vinyl release, but the minimalist, monochromatic, pixelated artwork and idea of retro, videogame technology being used to recreate primitive electronic music then said music being released on an archaic, analog audio format made my head explode. So much so, that I found myself handing over $7.00 for this piece of geek pop culture. Don't be like me, use the seven bucks to buy yourself lunch. Hear the songs from this 12" at the MySpace promotional page for free here.Labels: 8-Bit Operators, Pocket Calculator 12", vinyl
